	Deltec MC500 Protein Skimmer Ref: MC500 The Deltec MC500 Multi Compact Skimmer is the ideal model for those with little space in their tank or sump or for fitting inside a Juwel Aquarium without modifying the lights. When starting up in marine fish keeping many people opt for a budget low efficiency skimmer which gets thrown away after 6 months or when they upgrade the size of their systems. You should therefore bear in mind that this skimmer will not only be suitable for the 50 gallon aquarium that you are looking at now but can be reused in their subsequent systems for anything up to 120 gallons. This makes much more financial sense than spending up to 2 thirds of the Deltec price or more on the budget skimmer and then throwing it away when you move up to your next tank. Tank mounted Installation. The MC500 fits tidily inside the aquarium against either the back or side wall and normally can be fitted using the bracket supplied, (either clear front face or black back face forwards). As long as the water level does not exceed the maximum shown on the body then the unit will operate. The MC500 will not fit easily on the new Vision 450 and for this tank we recommend the MCE600 skimmer with the return flowing into the corner filter box. Sump Mounted Installation The skimmer can be used in any sump as long as the water depth is greater than 125mm and does not exceed the max level shown on the body. An adjustable weir plate is provided which raises the water level to the correct height for any depth of water. 	Deltec MCE600 Protein Skimmer Ref: MCE600 The Deltec MCE600 Protein Skimmer is the ultimate hang on skimmer and since its introduction at the end of 2003 has taken the market by storm. Its new design gives it the flexibility to hang on almost any brand of aquarium or for it to be used inside or hanging on the outside of a sump. There is a chamber built into the skimmer where media such as RowaPhos or carbon can be used in a sock or bag and there is even an optional media box available. 	Deltec APF600 Protein Skimmer Ref: APF600 Deltec APF600 Protein Skimmer is the most popular of the smaller AP skimmers as for a little more money you get a lot more performance. Suitable for aquariums up to 1000lts (222 UK gallons). This is and always was the 'Daddy' of the 525/600 size skimmers and can not be recommended high enough for aquariums around the 750-1000 lt range. 	Deltec Mark II Cleaning Head for AP703/1003/1004 Ref: APCLHEAD Deltec Mark II Cleaning Head for AP703/1003/1004 is a Self-Cleaning Head for Deltec Skimmers Deltec make a series of self cleaning heads for their larger AP skimmers and can increase the efficiency of your skimmer by up to 20% On all skimmers if you watch them over a number of days you will see the amount of waste collected fall off with time. This is because as the foam rises it deposits some of the fat and proteins that it has collected on the side of the riser tube. This deposit makes it harder for the foam to climb ans so the amount of waset in the cup decreases. The idea behind the cleaning head is that every 1-2 hours, brushes on the head clean the inside of the riser tube and keep it spotlessly clean. No additional water is used for this as the wetness of the foam is sufficient if done on such a frequent time scale Waste Removal The other side of the operation is keeping the skimmer cup clean so that the smell that goes along with the waste is removed too. This is achieved using an auto syphon and a fresh water supply controlled via a solenoid. Once a day, depending on the rate that the waste is collected, the solenoid switches on which introduces a jet of freshwater into the cup.
